Making Porcelain Cups

Daniel Jessep's cups, beakers, mugs, tumblers, vessels (call them what you will) are made from vitrified porcelain, which gives the cups that lovely translucent look. Try holding one up to the light and you will see how translucent it is. The clay that is used to make these cups is a formula developed by Daniel Jessep over several years and its greatest claim is that it is made from New Zealand china clay or halloysite, or kaolin, which happens to arguably be the whitest china clay in the world! This makes the cups very white and translucent and also makes the coloured glazes that coat the cups especially vibrant. New Zealand china clay is mined in Matauri Bay in Northland New Zealand. Most of the clay is sent overseas to high-end tableware manufacturers, fortunately we can buy it here but being a premium product it is expensive, but so worth it!
